Does your eating disorder voice get louder when you're alone? Do you feel that you don't know who to go to for support or people don't know what to say in those moments?
I am available for texting support outside of sessions. When you are having an eating-disorder urge, thought, or behavior - it's so important to reach out! I understand the importance of taking that step but also how heavy the phone can feel in those moments.
The more you reach out in moments of distress, the more evidence you will have to ride the wave of an urge and you do not have to do that alone.
Do you feel overwhelmed when you step into the grocery store?
There are so many different options and labels that your eating-disorder voice can and may get the best of you. Prior to this outing, we will come up with a list of items to purchase and a plan for entering the grocery store. We will discuss and process any fears prior, during, and after to ensure your goals and success with the outing. You can't eat without food and you can’t get food without purchasing it.
I am here to help guide you along the way!
Do you fear going into a clothing store with all the mirrors and sizes? Do you have a critical negative part of you that comes up during these shopping experiences?
As your body may go through the necessary changes in order to recover, you might need to purchase new clothes. Trying on clothes surrounded by mirrors for the first time in a while can be extremely overwhelming and ignite negative self talk. This can be detrimental to your progress.
Together we will create a plan that is best for you to maintain recovery and have a new experience with clothing shopping. I will accompany you through the store and help process any thoughts or feelings that come up. I know how hard it is to buy new clothes when entering recovery. You don’t have to do it alone.
Do you feel you need extra support and accountability during meals?
You can't change your relationship to food without actually changing your relationship to food. Talking about the food in therapy is one thing, but eating and sitting with the feelings that follow is another. This can be really hard to do on your own. Together, we can navigate through your thoughts and feelings that come up in front of the food. Everyone embarking on recovery from an eating disorder is in a different place, so no meal and snack support session will look the same. I also believe that it’s crucial to meet you where you are at and go from there. Changing your relationship to food takes time so we will move at a pace that is best tailored for you and your goals. This support looks like:
(It's important to note that I do not provide meal plans, only meal support. )
We will utilize the goals set with your treatment team to guide our work together.
Do you find yourself having an unbalanced relationship with exercise? Do you feel this is a behavior you utilize in order to try and control how you look and feel? Do you enjoy it?
Movement does not have to be only about the size and shape of your body. It can be a way to go inward, to appreciate and honor your body’s ability to move and see it’s strength. The way you see and value exercise can take on a whole new meaning than before. I’m extremely passionate about movement because I know how hard it can be implementing it back into your life in a new, healthy and balanced way. Mindful movement is a fun way to connect with yourself and with others.
We can do this through weight training, hiking, walking, yoga, dance classes, rock climbing, contact sports and more! There is a way to have a balanced relationship with movement and I can help you find what works best for you.
Do you have a wedding or party coming up that you may fear your ED voice will show up to?
I am able to attend any event that might prevent you from engaging in behaviors and help keep you accountable. We will discuss boundaries surrounding the event in session and come up with an individualized plan on how to achieve any goals we have set to ensure your success.
